About Us

Hello!

Welcome to the Windy City Comfort Project, where we're all about a second blanket for the Second City! Founded in 2023 in the west suburbs of Chicago, we are a family-driven initiative with a mission that's close to our hearts.

Our Mission:

At Windy City Comfort Project, we believe in the power of a cozy gesture. For every purchase made through our website, at our retail spaces, or at our various pop-up events, we pledge to donate a fleece blanket to someone in need. Our blanket donations stay right here in Chicagoland -- unless we're taking the show on the road, where we always find a local organization doing important work to help individuals and families in need. It's our way of spreading comfort and compassion across the vibrant communities we love.

Quality and Sustainability:

Our commitment to making a difference goes hand in hand with our dedication to quality. Our blankets are eco-friendly and easy to care for, and they’re crafted predominantly in Turkey by a small, family owned business. We are fortunate to be able to work alongside their artisans to design, select colors and patterns, and source the perfect assortment for every season -- whether it's a beach towel or a cozy throw.

Our Founder's Story:

"Originally from the Milwaukee area, I witnessed the transformative impact of community-driven initiatives to combat homelessness. Inspired by the success of Milwaukee's Housing First programs, which led to a remarkable 92% reduction in homelessness, I decided to channel that spirit of change to my new home, Chicago."

Making a Difference in and around Chicago:

Chicago, with its estimated 65,000 homeless individuals at any given time, became home a few years ago and is now our canvas for change. We reached out to local organizations and forged a partnership with A Safe Haven, an organization that shares our belief that "Housing is Healthcare." They focus on providing housing, mental health support, education, and pathways to employment, helping our unhoused neighbors regain stability and independence. In 2025, we added an additional primary donation partner, Family Shelter Services, who works to provide help and hope to victims of domestic violence in DuPage County since 1976. The need remains great across local organizations assisting those in need -- blankets and toiletries are consistently among the most requested items.

Blankets as a Symbol of Care:

Why blankets? In addition to being a cozy staple in your home, blankets serve as essential lifelines for those in need -- whether they reside within a shelter or are rebuilding their lives in a new home. Local organizations do incredible work but are not immune from budget constraints. We deliver our blankets directly to the doorsteps of our donation partners, ensuring immediate comfort for their residents.

Transparency and Community:

In a world with many charitable initiatives, we aim to stand out by maintaining a direct connection between our customers and the organization they support through their purchases. Transparency is the cornerstone of our mission, as we proudly adhere to a one-for-one donation model benefitting several recurring donation partners around the Midwest. We share information about each organization at artisan markets and events, along with our retail spaces. Our current donation partners include A Safe Haven and Family Shelter Service in Chicagoland, The Road Home in Madison, WI, Pathfinders in Milwaukee, and Resilience in Western Michigan.

A Family-Driven Endeavor:

Windy City Comfort Project is more than just a business; it's a family affair. Our family is actively involved in every aspect of our project, from selecting the season's blankets to crafting marketing strategies, and bringing awareness to the cause.

Join us in spreading warmth and hope throughout Chicagoland. Together, we can make a difference, one cozy blanket at a time.
